Durga, (also known as Parvati), is the Goddess representing self-knowledge, strength, and Divine Motherhood. She is the wife of Siva, and is the Shakti or female energy, through which Divinity manifests.

Durga rides a tiger and has 8 arms, each holding a weapon, representing the strength with which she protects her children. She represents the ideal motherly love. She fights for righteousness.

The mantra for meditating on Durga is Om Sri Durgayai Namah. The bija mantra is Hrim.
